Andalusia with kids: 8-day itinerary

Our friends have a house in a beach town outside of Malaga in the Andalusia region of southern Spain. When they offered, we jumped at the opportunity to stay with them for a week in the summer. Before our trip, they shared with us tons of ideas for things to see and do in Andalusia with kids. While we spent plenty of time just relaxing at the beach along the Costa del Sol, we also tried to fit in other activities in the region.

Our Itinerary

Here’s an overview of our itinerary while in Andalusia with kids. Click on each day to read the post on that location’s activities.

These are just the places we chose to visit, but there are of course plenty of other options in region! For example, we chose to go to Granada to see the Alhambra as our further away day-trip. But we could just as easily have drove up to Seville or Cordoba to experience other historic cities in southern Spain. We also chose Frigiliana as our white village to see, but could also have driven south of Malaga to visit Mijas instead. We also considered driving down to Tarifa and taking the ferry over to Tangier, Morocco, but it ultimately didn’t fit into our schedule.

On that note, this is one of the few trips where we rented a car, as we found it easiest to drive to each of our destinations. While there are trains from Malaga to major locations like Grenada, it would have been more complicated to places like Frigiliana.

Having Malaga or a surrounding town as your home base provides a lot of travel opportunities throughout Andalusia and the Costa del Sol. We loved our week here – the sun, the beach, the mountains, the history – and would go back in a heartbeat!
